Summer Vacation 2011,Hecla Island & West Hawk Lake

Had a great relaxing time at Hecla Island with 3 great people-- Elsie ,Barry and Dorothy-- Elsie's Mom. Great food, great company & good fishing. We had a bit of trouble keeping worms & minnows on the barbless hooks, of course there was a lot of casting from shore & docks which threw the bait away.We had lots of time to figure out the solution to this problem but we caught a few fish.

The second week we were at West Hawk and fished at Lyons Lake where the problem continued, Oh did I mention that we couldn't get regular night crawlers in Northern Mb. but were able to buy Nitro crawlers that glow in the dark @ $8.00 a dozen. They were so lively that they were escaping off the barbless hooks.

Now back to Lyons lake. We got some regular Dew worms along with the Nitro guys and we probably threw away about $40.00 worth of bait trying to catch trout. We got lots of bites and ended up with bare hooks on the retrieve. The fish were well fed.

I couldn't come up with a solution to this problem; came home quite frustrated.

I got home and called the family to let them know we were back safely and in a conversation with my son Ken I was telling him about the bait problems, Now you all know I have shared a lot of information about how to catch fish with all my children, the tricks of the trade, little secrets about how to be succesful catching fish,so my oldest boy tells me that a couple of years ago a fisherman friend of his told him a little secret of how to stop worms & minnows from getting off barbless hooks, now I think that is worth sharing with the original teacher & the family.

Oh did you hear about Samanthas big Walleye caught at White Lake, there n has been a very Large pike now a very large Walleye that has escaped the hands of my oldest son off the dock just prior to picture taking. I hope his arthritis doesn't get any worse as he soon won't be able to hold on to a golf club let alone a fishing rod. Love just roasting you Ken.

You should have seen Wilma rescuing me out of Lyons Lake , what a fisherman won't do to land the big one. No actually I lost my balance in the pebbles on the shore and fell in, quite a splash and great rescue by Wilma.

Took quite a time to dry out Wallet, Cell phone, lic. and pictures, Its a great way to check the temperature of the Lake which was really warm and was probably the reason the trout weren't comeing close to shore.

2012 24th of May Long weekend a success

24th of May weekend a great success for the Neufeld family. Steve & son Tyler         in their grandfathers unique fishing boat something that this author hasn't seen since he was 15 years old at Hills lake . The one at Hills Lake  was made from 2-1947 Hudson car hoods welded together. a 3 seater front middle & rear & was powered with a small outboard 2 1/2 horse. The Neufeld boat is high tech to say the least and preformed well in the calm water this weekend
